The Embassy of Poland in Beijing hosted a talk by the London-based economist Paola Subacchi on China’s currency policy. The event has been organized by Young China Watchers’ Beijing chapter, with the Embassy’s support.

Paola Subacchi serves as Director of International Economics Research at Chatham House in London, and has recently published „The People’s Money: How China Is Building a Global Currency”. In her book, she introduces readers to China’s monetary system, mapping its evolution over the past century and, particularly, its transformation since the beginning of the reform and opening. She demonstrates the great impact of the 2008 financial crisis on the course China’s currency policy has taken and might take in the future.

During her appearance in the Embassy, Dr. Subacchi summed up the key findings of her research on China’s currency policy. After her talk, she engaged in a vivid exchange with the audience, that included a number of Chinese and foreign experts and financial professionals.

Paola Subacchi is an expert on the functioning and governance of the international financial and monetary systems. She advises governments and non-profit organisations and is a contributor to academic journals and current affairs publications. She is also a regular media commentator. She was born in Italy and studied at Università Bocconi in Milan and at the University of Oxford.
